Founded in 1867 in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, it is one of the oldest universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. It has several campuses in Amsterdam and comprises of seven faculties, offering a total of 80 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. There are approximately 43,000 students (as of 2016). 

The Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries, with which the School of Design is affiliated, offers English-language exchange programs in the areas of Fashion, ICT, Media Design and Media and Communication. MediaLAB Amsterdam, an organization in the Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries, was developed and dissolved to become the Digital Society School (DSS), which conducts international industry-academic collaboration projects. It is a popular program that attracts participants from the School of Design almost every year.
