Silpakorn University is one of the national universities in Thailand, established in 1933 as a school with a Fine Arts Department and officially named Silpakorn University in 1943. Currently, there are 13 faculties with approximately 7,000 students enrolled.
The Faculty of Architecture offers seventeen programs, including 2 bachelor’s programs, 10 master’s programs, and five doctoral programs. These range from architectural programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels to urban design, urban and environmental planning, construction management, and landscape architecture programs at the postgraduate level. Some are especially unique, such as Architectural Heritage, Creative Industries, and Tourism Management (AHCITM), Vernacular Architecture and Built Environment (VABE), and History of Architecture. While these are programs at the postgraduate level, Thai Architecture is offered at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Architecture programs are taught at the university’s founding campus, Wang Tha Phra, which is located at the heart of Bangkok’s inner-city area known as Rattanakosin Island. It is situated across from the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which are the most significant historic and revered sites in Thailand.
