The University of Lapland is the northernmost university in the EU, located in Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland.

It has four departments, Education, Law, Art and Design, and Social Sciences, with 7,800 students and 730 staff.

Established in 1979, the University of Lapland aimed to provide higher education opportunities for those living in the far reaches of northern Finland. Now the university has grown into an international, multidisciplinary university whose areas of expertise include art and design, education, law, social sciences, Northern and Arctic themes, and tourism research. Their first-class Arctic design labs support cutting-edge research on the interactions between people and the environment in the Arctic. Their interaction with community, businesses, and society is at the core of their research in northern Finland.

RemarksSelect a full course load of 30 ECTS per semester or 60 ECTS for the full academic year.
Be prepared for possible changes in the courses.
You can choose courses from different faculties, but some restrictions apply to the Faculty of Art and Design. Submit a 300-word in English summary of the following information to Professor Sarantou via email.
– Desired period of exchange study (6 months or 1 year)
– Reason for applying
– English proficiency (self-evaluation or score if available)
*Please be sure to contact Prof. Sarantou at least one month before the deadline. Students are required to submit a language certificate at the time of application. Required level of English language proficiency must be CEF B2 / IELTS 6 / TOEFL iBT 87 or equivalent.
