The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati was established in 1994. Academic programmes at IIT Guwahati began in 1995. Currently, the institute has 11 departments and five interdisciplinary academic centres, offering major engineering and science programmes at BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, Master’s and PhD levels. IIT Guwahati has established world-class infrastructure for conducting advanced research within a short timeframe and is equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and technological apparatus. The Guwahati campus is situated on a 285-hectare site approximately 20 kilometres from the city centre, on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River.
