Manly, a Great Place for Students

Manly is a great place for students.

If you are hungry,
If you want to study,
If you want to do your homework,
If you want to have a meeting, or if you are lonely…
Manly has got you covered!

Manly is a restaurant that serves Australian cuisine. It has three branches, and one of them is located on the Ohashi campus at the Design Commons. It is open from 8:20 to 18:30 daily, except at weekends. They offer many affordable food options, and the menu changes throughout the day, with different options for breakfast, lunch, and café time. I highly recommend the daily lunch, which includes two different main dish options, which you can choose from, and it only costs 500 yen! And if you can’t decide, you can choose both for an additional 150 yen. Only 150 yen!!! Additionally, they offer several big, soft, and delicious pancakes on the menu of café time that will make you very happy. Do try them when you have the opportunity!

Aside from food, Design Commons provides other services. First, you can connect to the university Wi-Fi (kitenet) and charge your laptop while you work or study. The place is clean, big and open. The natural light from the large glass panel windows, the greeneries surrounding the cafeteria and warm lighting created a great ambience for students to use the space and study. In addition, you can move the desks and chairs around freely, making it easy for groups of people to gather and work or chat.

Feeling lonely? Don’t worry, Manly at Design Commons is a great place to meet new people. It’s common for students from all nationalities to use Manly, so it’s a good opportunity to communicate and make friends. Many international students want to make Japanese friends, but it’s not always easy because Japanese people can be shy. On the other hand, many Japanese students want to make international friends or practice speaking English, although they may be shy. Perhaps we can all build up our courage in this relaxed and friendly place to make the first move of saying “Hi”.

I often visit Manly and am always happy to chat with new people and make new friends! I hope to see you there:)

*Unfortunately, Manly has left us. However, we have a new vendor for the cafeteria, and they will still be using the name “Manly,” which most students are familiar with. We are excited and looking forward to the new menu in this new semester of AY 2023!
